Prof Yunus Killer-Suspect sent to Rajshahi Jail

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi   The key accused in Rajshahi University professor Mohammad Yunus murder case and JMB leader Shahidullah alias Mahbub was sent to Rajshahi central jail last evening.   Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that is investigating into the case now produced Shahidullah before a metropolitan magistrate court in Rajshahi seeking him on 10 day police remand.   The court did not hear on the CID's remand petition following a full court reference over death of a lawyer and ordered his jail custody.   The court also fixed May 6 for hearing. Top Terrorist Benjir held

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members yesterday held the top listed notorious terrorist Benjir Ahmed with bullet wounds following a shootout at his home at Hoseniganj Bedpatty in the city.   He was undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital at filing of this news.   Benjir was black listed by most of the intelligence agencies as top terrorist of the city for last several years, said the police and Rab.   On a tip off, a large team of the elite forces laid seize around his house and several Rab members entered into house.   Sensing Rab presence, Benjir opened fire on the Rab from his bed room.   Rab members also fired in counter and later arrested him with two bullet injuries in his legs.   Rab seized a Italian made Pistol with 4 bullets from him. Rab members last night arrested Chief Health Officer Rizvi Sultan and Store Keeper Afsar Ali when they went to Rab office with papers related to sale of anti-rabbit vaccines of the government, as Rab found evidence of irregularities in the papers. Earlier in the day, Rab held Zillur Rahman, 55, of Wasenkola of Rajpara and Mohammad Khaibar, 54, of Ranibazar of Boalia thana, both are employees of RCC.
