Cultural activists and Udichi Shilpigoshti yesterday met university Proctor Enamul Haque and demanded punishment of the Shibir activists who physically assaulted Udichi activist Hosne Ara Farzana, a third year student of the university, on Thursday.

Shibir activists assault female student at RU
Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) activists of Rajshahi University yesterday assaulted a female student on the campus for protesting a 'Shibir-propaganda' about a drama which was staged there on November 3.
Sources said a group of Shibir activists under the banner of 'Sacheton Chhatra Samaj' went to Bengali department and called general students to join a rally with them saying that some cultural activists staged a drama against the Prophet (SM).
They assaulted Udichi activist Hosne Ara Farzana, also a 3rd year student of the department, as she protested the 'propaganda'.
Shortly after the assault, Bengali department students and Shibir activists chased each other on the campus.
Police rushed to the spot immediately and brought the situation under control.
Sources said the students along with Farzana submitted a written complaint to the Bengali department chairman describing the incident. They also submitted another complaint to university proctor Enamul Haque demanding exemplary punishment of the responsible Shibir activists.
They threatened to launch a tough movement against the university authorities if the responsible Shibir activists are not punished.
Meanwhile, RU unit Udichi Shilpigoshti held a press conference at Chhatra Union tent and strongly protested the assault on the female student.
During the press conference, victim Farzana read out a written statement where she alleged that Shibir activists were involved in a conspiracy against the progressive cultural activists on the campus.
She mentioned that Dhumketu Natya Sangsad of RU staged a drama 'Mandar' on the campus on November 3 protesting the removal of Lalon's sculpture near Zia International Airport in the capital.
Udichi activists performed the drama where there is a servant character who is always criticised by his housemaster for his fault.
She said the drama, written by Rahul Anando, has been taken from theater-based magazine 'Theaterwala'.
"In the drama, we only used the servant character but nothing else and the Shibir activists make it an illogical issue," she said.
Udichi Shilpigoshti also demanded exemplary punishment of the Shibir activists who are involved in the false propaganda against cultural activists.
On November 5, RU Udichi general secretary Abu Sayem, also the RU unit president of Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BCU), filed a general dairy (GD) with Motiher police after receiving a death threat for performing the drama.
When contacted, Proctor Enamul Haque confirmed the incident and said they have increased security of Bengali department students and cultural activists on the campus.
