রাজশাহীর মাটি ভারতে নিয়ে গেলেন অক্ষয় কুমার মৈত্রেয়ের প্রদৌহিত্র

ইতিহাসবিদ অক্ষয় কুমার মৈত্রেয়ের প্রদৌহিত্র অভিজিৎ গোস্বামী আজ রোববার ৩ দিনের রাজশাহী সফর শেষ করেছেন।

ভারতের হুগলি জেলার বাবু জগজীবন রাম মেমোরিয়াল কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ গোস্বামী রাজশাহীতে বরেন্দ্র গবেষণা জাদুঘরের (ভিআরএম) মাটি সংগ্রহ করেন এবং ভারতে ফেরার সময় মাটি সঙ্গে নিয়ে যান।

রাজশাহীতে অবস্থানকালে তিনি বেশ কয়েকটি অনুষ্ঠানে অংশ নেন এবং মৈত্রেয়ের স্মৃতি বিজড়িত স্থানগুলো পরিদর্শন করেন।

ভিআরএম এর অন্যতম প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও সিরাজউদ্দৌলা (১৮৯৮) গ্রন্থের লেখক অক্ষয় কুমার মৈত্রেয় ১৮৭২ সালে রাজশাহী আসেন। ১৯৩০ সালে মৃত্যুর আগ পর্যন্ত সেখানেই অবস্থান করেন।

স্থানীয় ইতিহাসবিদরা বলেন, মৈত্রেয়ের রচনা রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরকে এই শহরে আকৃষ্ট করেছিল।

অভিজিৎ গোস্বামী মৈত্রেয়ের ছেলে বিজয় কুমার মৈত্রেয়ের মেয়ে বিথিকা দেবীর ছেলে।

গণিত, শিক্ষা ও ইতিহাসে মাস্টার্স ও পিএইচডি ডিগ্রি অর্জনকারী গোস্বামী গত ৯ ফেব্রুয়ারি সন্ধ্যায় রাজশাহী আসেন। তিনি ১০ ফেব্রুয়ারি 'অক্ষয় কুমার মৈত্রেয়: বাংলার ইতিহাস রচনার পথপ্রদর্শক'শীর্ষক সেমিনারে যোগ দেন এবং মূল প্রবন্ধ পাঠ করেন।

মৈত্রেয়ের ৯৩তম মৃত্যুবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষে রাজশাহী ইতিহাস পরিষদ, মুক্তিযুদ্ধ পাঠাগার ও রাজশাহী থিয়েটার যৌথভাবে এ সেমিনারের আয়োজন করে। কবি রুহুল আমিন প্রামাণিক সেমিনারে সভাপতিত্ব করেন।

আজ গোস্বামী রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক গোলাম সাব্বির সাত্তার ও রাজশাহী সিটি করপোরেশনের মেয়র এএইচএম খায়রুজ্জামান লিটনের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করেন।

অভিজিৎ গোস্বামী দ্য ডেইলি স্টারকে জানান, ছোটবেলা থেকেই তিনি রাজশাহী ভ্রমণের সুযোগ খুঁজছিলেন। তিনি তার বাবা-মা এবং দাদা-দাদির কাছ থেকে মৈত্রেয়ের গল্প শুনেছেন।

তিনি ১৬ বছরেরও বেশি সময় ধরে মৈত্রেয়ের কাজ নিয়ে গবেষণা চালাচ্ছেন। মৈত্রেয়ের ১৮৩টি বাংলা প্রবন্ধের মধ্যে ১১৩টিরও বেশি প্রবন্ধ এখনো অপ্রকাশিত রয়েছে বলে জানান তিনি।

Akshay Kumar Maitreya’s great-grandson ends three-day Rajshahi visit

Historian Akshay Kumar Maitreya's great-grandson Abhijit Goswami has completed a three-day visit to Rajshahi city today.

During his stay, Goswami, also principal of Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial College in India's Hooghly district, collected the soil of Varendra Research Museum (VRM) and took it with him, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent.

He attended several ceremonies and visited places that bear memories of Maitreya.

Akshay Kumar Maitreya, one of the founders of VRM and the author of Sirajuddaulah (1898), went to Rajshahi in 1872 and stayed there until his death in 1930.

Maitreya's works drew Rabindranath Tagore to the city.

Abhijit Goswami is the son of Bithika Devi, the daughter of Maitreya's son Bijoy Kumar Maitreya.

Goswami, who also achieved MA and PhD degrees in Mathematics, Education and History, reached Rajshahi on the evening of February 9.

He attended a seminar titled "Akshay Kumar Maitreya: Pathfinder of Bengal's Historiography" on February 10 and gave the keynote speech.

While talking to The Daily Star, Abhijit Goswami said he had been looking for the opportunity to visit Rajshahi since his childhood, ever since he started hearing stories of Maitreya from his parents and grandparents.

He said he has been conducting a study on the works of Maitreya for more than 16 years.

"A huge number of his works are still in the dark," he said revealing that out of a total of 183 Maitreya's Bengali essays, over 113 are yet to be published.
