A man staged a solo protest today against "torture and harassment" by Rajshahi-3 lawmaker Md Ayeen Uddin and his aides. Suranjit Sarker, a former Rajshahi AL member, hanging a placard from his neck, drew attention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and demanded justice for his ordeal. He stood at Saheb Bazar Zero Point for two and a half hours since around noon before some of the lawmaker's men drove him away, witnesses say. He later took position in front of the Rajshahi Press Club where he stayed till filing of this report around 5:40pm. Suranjit alleged that in February 2015, Ayeen Uddin, the lawmaker from Rajshahi-3 (Paba-Mohanpur), and his brother-in-law Abdus Salam used their men to brutally beat him. Suranjit said he was then president of Mohanpur upazila unit of Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council and helped a local Hindu man in recovery of his land from illegal occupation of the lawmaker and his family members. ভাষা সৈনিক মাদার বখশের সংরক্ষিত সমাধির দেয়াল ভেঙে ফেলেছে রাজশাহী সিটি করপোরেশনের নির্মাণ শ্রমিকরা। সীমানা প্রাচীর সংস্কার করতে গিয়ে গত সপ্তাহে রাজশাহীর হেতেম খাঁ গোরস্তানে সমাধির দক্ষিণ পাশের দেয়ালটি ভেঙে ফেলা হয়। মাদার বখশ্ (১৯০৭-১৯৬৭) ১৯৪৬ সালের বঙ্গীয় আইনসভা নির্বাচনে জয়ী হন। তিনি ১৯৫২ সালের ভাষা আন্দোলনের সংগঠক ছিলেন। রাজশাহী পৌরসভার প্রতিষ্ঠাতা চেয়ারম্যান ও রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অন্যতম প্রতিষ্ঠাতা হিসেবে তার নাম স্মরণীয় হয়ে আছে। মৃত্যুর পর পারিবারিকভাবে তার সমাধি সংরক্ষণ করা হয়। আগামীকাল শুক্রবার তার ৫৬তম মৃত্যুবার্ষিকী। সরেজমিনে দেখা যায় রাজশাহী সিটি করপোরেশনের (রাসিক) গোরস্থান সংস্কার প্রকল্পের আওতায় হেতম খাঁ গোরস্থানে সীমানা প্রাচীর সংস্কার করতে গিয়ে মাদার বখশের সমাধির একটি দেয়াল ভেঙে ফেলা হয়েছে। গোরস্থানে ব্যক্তিগতভাবে সংরক্ষিত আরও কয়েকটি সমাধি ভাঙা পড়েছে। এসব কবরের কয়েকটির স্মৃতিফলকও ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে। তবে মাদার বখশের সমাধির উত্তর অংশের স্মৃতিফলক অক্ষত আছে। সুশাসনের জন্য নাগরিক (সুজন)-এর রাজশাহী জেলা সভাপতি আহমেদ শফি উদ্দিন তার এক আত্মীয়ের কবর জিয়ারত করতে গিয়ে মা

The common perception about mangoes is that they mature early in the country's north-western districts. The Himalayan slope in the north sees more acute winters and summers than any other district, and this has fuelled the idea. But a recent study proved a different theory. The study found that the country's hilly terrain, which is closest to the sea, where there is less difference in temperature, ripens mangoes faster. After the hills, the fastest rates of maturity were measured in Khulna, Rajshahi and Rangpur regions. The study also shows that any variety of mango in the country's northern part takes at least three weeks more to mature when compared to the hilly regions' rate. The study was published in the MDPI Sustainability journal of Switzerland on October 19. Abdul Malek was allocated a plot inside an industrial estate of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) in Rajshahi back in the 1970s. Since then, he has managed to lease an additional six plots totaling 18,000 square feet in the area to expand his food, textile, and dying units, the latter two of which deal with producing Rajshahi silk. It was not always smooth sailing for Malek though as his business began to crumble when the comparatively pricey Rajshahi silk started to lose out to cheaper alternatives in the 1980s. In order to survive, he handed over one of his plots to a fellow businessperson and closed his textile and dying factories while continuing with his food industry on a small scale. However, Malek's luck turned around when he happened to become general secretary of the BSCIC Industry Owners Association.
