Minu sued for abetting extortion!

Ex-BNP lawmaker and Rajshahi city mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu was sued in an extortion case with Rajpara police station yesterday. He was blamed for abetting extortionists and terrorists. Shamsul Islam Khan of Mohisbathan areas in the city lodged the case accusing the Mayor and 10 others including district BNP vice president Nazrul Huda and former city BNP secretary Shafikul Haq Milon. Other accused persons are – BNP adherents Sentu, Mainul, Babu, Ranju, Shamsul, Islam, Ashraf and Mamun. Khan, a governing body member of Evergreen Model College at Baharampur alleged in his complainant that the accused persons are allied with each other and they demanded Tk 4 lakh toll on March 29. The plaintiff alleged said, Minu called him and the college principal Abu Yusuf Selim at his office during setting up of the college in 2006. Minu requested them to include Nazrul Huda, Milon and local BNP adherent Sentu in the college governing body, the plaintiff was describing in the case. As denied,

4 militants, 2 outlaws held

Police arrested four militants of Jama'atul Mujahidin, Bangladesh (JMB) and two cadres of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) from Bagmara upazila yesterday.   The detained militants are identified as Said Ali, 45, Joyen, 28 of Roynagar, Khoyer Ali, 36 of Kodapara and Akram, 40 of Sripur villages.   The police said, the militants were active in JMB operations led by Bangla Bhai in 2004 and accused in several torture cases.   The arrested outlaws are Mamun, 23 of Taherpur Basia and Khwaza Moyen, 28 of Maria villages. They are listed members of banned PBCP, said the police.   Different police teams led by Mirza Golam Sarwar, officer-in-charge of Bagmara police station caught them from their respective localities.   With the arrests, total 23 JMB militants and 51 outlaws were held in recent crackdown since mid January, said the police.   Meanwhile, police is continuing haunt against militants and outlaws simultaneously.

Miliatnt, outlaw held in Bagmara

Police arrested two persons – a militant of Jma'atul Mujahidin, Bangladesh (JMB) and an outlaw of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) from Bagmara upazila last evening.   The detainee -- Abdur Rashid, 45 was a JMB leader of Hamirkutsa village, said the police.   He was accused in two cases for attempting murder of Sripur union chairman Makbul Hossain and police assault.   Another arrestee Abed Ali, 35 of Mirzapur is a listed PBCP cadre. He was accused four cases including two murders.   Tipped off, two separate police teams led by officer-in-charge of Bagmara police station Mirza Golam Sarwar picked up the wanted persons from their localities.   Police was interrogating them till filing of this report.   OC Sarwar said, police is continuing haunt against militants and outlaws simultaneously so that the outlaws can not spring up following recent crackdown on the militants.

4 outlaws held

Police arrested four outlaws of banned Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) including its regional leader from Bagmara upazila early yesterday.   Ranajit Kumar Mondol, a regional PBCP leader was caught from Baroipara village, said the police.   Other arrestees are – Monirul Islam, 30, Raju Ahmed, 26 of Taherpur and Rafikul Islam, 40 of Bamonkoya villages in Bagmara. Police said, they are top-listed outlaws.   Tipped off, several police teams led by officer-in-charge of Bagmara police station Mirza Golam Sarwar caught them from their respective houses.   Ranajit was accused in several cases including murder of Omar, an associate of militants. He was evading arrest for last several years, said the police.   OC Mirza Golam Sarwar said, police was continuing haunt against the outlaws so that the outlaws can not spring up following recent crackdown on the militants.

Police held 3 Outlaws in Bagmara

Police arrested three listed members of outlawed Sarbohara group from Bagmara upazila in Rajshahi yesterday. The detainees – Shahadat Hossain, 35 of Nakhopara, Nazmul Hossain, 20, and Anwar, also known as Babul and Altaf, 25 of Polashi were sent to jail custody after police produced them before a Rajshahi court showing arrested under emergency ordinance. Tipped off, a police team led by officer-in-charge of Bagmara police station Mirza Golam Sarwar held them raiding their houses. Police said, the arrestees were accused in several cases of murder and terrorist activities.
