The Rajshahi Zilla Parishad has begun constructing the city's first Central Shaheed Minar on its own land in Sonadighi area. The parishad's chairman Mir Iqbal formally inaugurated the construction work today. The construction is slated to be completed at less than half of the cost estimated by Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) earlier for the project, reports our Rajshahi correspondent. The one-acre land of the construction site earlier housed Rajshahi Survey Institute. In 2020, after the institute vacated the site, the RCC initiated the process of constructing the Central Shaheed Minar. An altercation between NGO officials and government agricultural scientists broke out at a workshop in Rajshahi Circuit House yesterday, which was attended by Agriculture Minister Md Abdus Shahid. The workshop was jointly organised by DASCOH, World Bank's 2030 Water Resources Group (2030 WRG), and Coca-Cola Bangladesh Limited. During the workshop, the minister asked the government agriculturists what they have been doing, when NGOs are pointing out and solving different issues, which resulted in the altercation. Chinese International Education Foundation (CIEF) will set up a Confucius Institute at Rajshahi University within a year. The institute will offer Chinese language and cultural courses for Bangladeshi students, RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar, now travelling to China, told our Rajshahi correspondent virtually. Once established, the Confucius Institute will third organisation of CIEF in Bangladesh Universities, the first in North South University and the second being at Dhaka University. The Confucius Institute will be set up jointly by the university and Honghe University in Chinese Yunnan province, he said. The decision was taken in a meeting held at CIEF headquarters in Beijing Friday, the VC said. The Confucius Institute will play a role in bridging differences between the universities of the two countries, said Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar. গাছ থেকে আগাম গুটি জাতের আম পাড়ার মধ্য দিয়ে আজ বুধবার থেকে রাজশাহীতে আমের মৌসুম আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে শুরু হয়েছে। বাজারজাতকরণ এখনো শুরু না হলেও গত বছরের তুলনায় এবার বিভিন্ন গুটি জাতের আম প্রায় তিন গুণ দাম চাইছেন কৃষকেরা। কৃষকেরা বলেন, দীর্ঘ শীতকাল, মুকুল আসার সময় বৃষ্টি, দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে তাপদাহ এবং গ্রীষ্মে বৃষ্টির অভাবে ফলন ৩০ শতাংশের বেশি হ্রাস পেয়েছে। তবে আমের ফলন গত বছরের মতো হবে বলেই আশা করছে কৃষি সম্প্রসারণ অধিদপ্তর। গত বছর আমের ফলন ছিল প্রতি হেক্টরে ১৩ দশমিক ২৮ টন। রাজশাহী কৃষি সম্প্রসারণ অধিদপ্তরের ভারপ্রাপ্ত উপ-পরিচালক উম্মে সালমা বলেন, গাছে ফল কম ধরায় এ বছর আমের আকার বড় হবে। টক জাতের গুটি আম প্রতি মণ ১৫০০ টাকায় বিক্রি হওয়ার আশা করছেন চাষিরা। যা গত বছর বিক্রি হয়েছিল ৫০০ টাকায়। অন্যদিকে প্রতি মণ মিষ্টি গুটি আম দুই হাজার টাকায় বিক্রি হওয়ার আশা করা হচ্ছে। যা আগের বছর ছিল মণপ্রতি ৭০০ টাকা। ২৫ মে বাজারে আসবে গোপালভোগ। গত বছর প্রতি মণ গোপালভোগ ১২০০ টাকায় বিক্রি হয়েছিল, তবে এবার দাম দ্বিগুণ হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা আছে। তবে বানেশ্বরে জেলার সবচেয়ে বড় আমের বাজার বুধবার সকালে ফাঁকা ছিল। কয়েক

                                                                                                                                                                               Photo collected    পঞ্চমবারের মতো আবারও চালু হতে যাচ্ছে ম্যাংগো স্পেশাল ট্রেন। এবার এটি চলবে পদ্মা সেতু দিয়ে। ট্রেনটি চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জের রহনপুর থেকে বিকেল ৪টায় ছেড়ে রাত সোয়া ২টায় ঢাকায় পৌঁছাবে। ট্রেনটি চালু হবে আগামী ১০ জুন থেকে। আজ শনিবার রাজশাহী বিভাগীয় কমিশনারের কার্যালয়ে রাজশাহী থেকে দেশের বিভিন্ন জেলা আম পরিবহনের ওপর অনুষ্ঠিত এক সেমিনারে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত থেকে এ তথ্য জানান রেলমন্ত্রী জিল্লুল হাকিম। এ সময় রেলমন্ত্রী বলেন, 'এক সময় রেল ধুঁকে ধুঁকে চলেছে। অনেক জায়গায় রেললাইন তুলে নিয়ে বিক্রি করে দেওয়া হয়েছে। দক্ষ কর্মচারীদের গোল্ডেন হ্যান্ডশেকের নামে বিদায় করা হয়েছে। নানাভাবে আমরা আউটসোর্সিংয়ে লোক নিয়ে কাজ চালাচ্ছি। জনবল নিয়োগের জন্য কাজ করছি।' তিনি আরও বলেন, 'যাত্রী ও মাল পরিবহনের সবচেয়ে সস্তা পরিবহন রেলকে মানুষের দ্বারে দ্বারে পৌঁছানোর জন্য চেষ্টা করা হচ্ছে। নতুন নতুন লাইন নির্মাণ করা হচ্ছে।
