Killer Mustak held

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members held two other top aides of Siddikul Islam Bangla Bhai, operations commander of Jagrata Muslim Janata, Bangladesh (JMJB) from Raspur village in Dhamuirhat upazila of Naogaon district yesterday.
Mustafizur Rahman also known as Rana and killer Mostaque, 26, son of Abdul Jalil of Palashi village and Abdul Kuddus alias Masud, 24, son of Abdus Samad of Kathalbaria in Bagmara upazila were arrested following an intelligence tip off.
A Rab press release said, both of them were personal aides of Bangla Bhai and they took part in all Bangla Bhai’s dreaded operations during his ‘jungle rule’ in the North West in 2004.
They were arrested twice before, but released later. With their arrests, a total of 20 Jama’atul Mujahidin, Bangladesh cadres of Bagmara upazila were held during ongoing crackdown against criminals.
Officer-in-charge of Bagmara thana Mirza Golam Sarwar PPM said, Mostaque was accused in 7 cases, including 3 murder cases of Mahbub, Golam Rabbani Mukul and Zahangir, and wanted in four cases.
He added, Kuddus was wanted in three cases including Yasin murder case.
Mostaque earlier told police that he joined JMB following sponsor BNP bigwigs including former minister Ruhul Kuddus Talukhdar Dulu, and Rajshahi district BNP secretary Shis Muhammad.
Mostaque also included among the JMJB leaders who were leading the group’s Rajshahi march on May 23, 2004.
On the night of May 20 in 2004, the then superintendent of police in Rajshahi Masud Mia, Bangla Bhai and Mustaque were seen talking beneath a mango tree at Sadhanpur of Puthia upazila. Mustaque told Bangla Bhai that 'arrangements of caught persons will be done by tomorrow' and the SP asked Mutaque not to harm anybody who surrenders.
On the following day, newspapers reported the body of Abdul Quayyum Badshah of Raninagar out of three abducted was hanging upside down with a tree in Bogra. Several weeks later, body of Idris Ali Khejur, cut into four pieces, was recovered from underground near Bheti Siddikia Madrassah in Naogaon.
Kuddus was charge sheeted accused in Yasin murder case. He was arrested in Iswardi in Pabna hours after Yasin Ali Mridha, publicity secretary of Maria union AL was killed on June 30, 2004, but he was released later following diktat of former land affairs minister Ruhul Kuddus Talukhdar Dulu and local BNP leaders.
