Dismantle network, funding sources of outlaws
Matin asks law enforcement agencies
Home Adviser Maj Gen (Retd) MA Matin yesterday afternoon asked the law enforcement agencies to take 'effective and synchronised' actions to dismantle the network and funding sources of outlaws in northern districts.
"The government is now advancing towards holding free, fair and peaceful elections Apprehension has risen in people's mind that law and order can deteriorate. So, all should remain alert and active against outlaws, militants and anti-social activities", said Matin.
He called on the administration, police, Rab, BDR, Ansar and intelligence agencies at district and division levels to work together and resist outlaws with strong hand. Outlawed organisations must be exterminated. Identify their sources of funds.
He warned that any lack of coordination in divisional and district-level administrations would not be tolerated.
Matin was addressing a meeting on divisional law and order situation at Rajshahi deputy commissioner's conference room. The home adviser also held a closed door meeting with deputy commissioners and superintendents of police from 16 districts of the division.
Rajshahi University Vice Chancellor Prof Altaf Hossain, Rajshahi City Corporation acting Mayor Rejaunnabi, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Hafijur Rahman Bhuiyan, Rajshahi DIG Mokhlesur Rahman, Rajshahi DGFI Director Col Ezajur Rahman, Rab-5 Commanding Officer Lt Col Ishrat Hossain and Rajshahi BDR Sector Commander Col M Iqbal took part in the meeting.
The home adviser went to Rajshahi to review the condition of investigation into the attack on police at Taherpur on May 2.
He asked the law enforcers to investigate into whether the attack on police, orchestrated by the Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP), was a part of a definite plan or a separate incident.
"Investigate into their future plan and take proper measures to resist them."
He asked the divisional commissioner to coordinate monitoring of the outlawed activities in divisional and district-level meetings regularly. He suggested to increase activities of community policing.
Outlaws were used by political leaders in previous elections, said the sources, adding that they might be trying to bring the outlaws again before the upcoming elections.
Apprehension of outlawed activities during polls heightened following an investigation into the Taherpur attack and analyses of previous killings by outlaws, sources added.
