Rab seizes VoIP carrier equipments

Members of Rapid Action Battalion-5 (Rab) of Rajshahi held 2 persons and seized huge VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) carrier equipments worth Tk 2 crore from a business shop in Baliadighi of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Monday.

A Rab press release yesterday said, Rab members with assistance of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) raided the commercial shop of Tasnim Enterprise building.

The elite forces had been tipped off that a dishonest traders' group was running the VoIP business incurring the government huge loss of revenue over a long period.

Rab men held general manager of the VoIP business Ahsan Habib alias Jewel, 28, of Malson village and Mijanur Rahman Mithu, 30 of Kouta in Adamdighi upazila of Bogra district.


The seized VoIP equipments include -- 105 pieces of fixed wireless terminal antenna, satellite modem, generators, cellular sets, 105 pieces SIM cards of Indian Airtel, 49 SIMs of Aktel, one of Hutch, 132 Grameen Phone SIM cards and other electronic materials.


A case has been filed with Shibganj thana in this connection.
